Knowledge as Play: Comics by Japanese Modern Literature

In the context of Japanese cultural postmodernism, phenomenon resuming literary masterpieces in comic book form appears as a juxtaposition with specific purpose, resulting hybrid which we would regard komiXLit. As part way knowledge, interpret komiXLit an alternative model whose characteristic is that combination two apparently contradicting terms: “high” literature and manga pop culture publication, move placed by publishing houses under credo “understanding through manga”. Using illustrative example provided masterpiece authored Yasunari Kawabata Snow Country (1935-1937/ 1948) its version (2010), drawings Sakuko Utsugi, present endeavour proposes reading interpreted architectonic structure inspired former, attempt to identify dominants textual poetics. We propose term designate social (comics) versions, self-sustainable category within genre, meant complete already existing ones: story manga‚ dramatic pictures, graphic novels, boys’comics, girls’comics, men’s comics, ladies’ comics.
